Winter Around the World | Valade Park, Detroit RiverfrontIt has been quite some time since I have done a blog post. Photographs I recently took at Winter Around the World at Valade Park are a great place to start with blogging once again. This event was held by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy and celebrated different cultures from around the world. One of the biggest highlights from the weekend full of performances was a Lunar New Year Celebration held in partnership with the Michigan Taiwanese American Organization. The celebration was absolutely beautiful with a snowy background to take photographs against. Some of the other performances I was able to photograph were from Ho-Chunk Dance & Storytelling, Ballet Folklorico Moyocoyani Izel, The Tropical Wahines, and Adel Ruelas ft. Luna. The event also included food, winter sports activities and large fireplaces to get warm and cozy around. See below for photos.
Angela Senior Portrait Session | Detroit, MIWorking with Angie was very special for me. I have had the privilege of watching her grow up and I am also her godmother. I knew shooting her senior portraits would be a lot of fun. The class of 2021 is facing some unique circumstances being in a pandemic and all. I wanted her photos to be extra special and hopefully bring some normalcy to her. When she suggested we shoot the photos in Detroit, I knew it would be a great time. We began her session on the Detroit Riverfront at Cullen Plaza and Milliken State Park. Next we headed over to the Belt Alley in downtown Detroit. We finished the session on the grounds of one of my favorite places, the Detroit Institute of Arts. It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon and a session I will never forget. Angie, I wish you and the rest of the class of 2021 nothing but the best! Below are some of my favorite photos from the session. XOXO Renee
Día de los Muertos Ofrenda | Detroit River WalkDía de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a very special time for my family and I. It is a time to celebrate and honor our loved ones, who have passed away. We always build a family ofrenda in our house and have a special meal that consists of tamales and pan dulce to celebrate. My husband and I are raising our son to celebrate this holiday and hopefully pass this tradition on to his own family one day. This year, I had the very special opportunity to help build an ofrenda for the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy on the Detroit River Walk. 2020 has been a difficult year for many people and for many reasons. It was built to remember and celebrate the lives of all those, who have passed on, that people could visit to keep their memory alive. It was very special for me to see the community interact with the ofrenda. When I was building it with the help from others, several people stopped to talk about their own loved ones who had recently passed away. Others stopped to learn more about Day of the Dead. The ofrenda allowed the community to interact with it by leaving the names of their loved ones, who had passed, or special messages for them. It was beautiful to see the amount of messages and the appreciation they had for the ofrenda. I will always treasure this opportunity. Below are some of my favorite photographs I took.
Catherine & Rose | New Baltimore, MII had a fun summer photo session with beautiful Catherine and her adorable dog, Rose. This location took place in New Baltimore, Michigan surrounded by flowers and a swimming pool. Catherine is a very resilient woman with a tenacious spirit. Rose is a chocolate Labrador Retriever with a heart of gold. She is such a sweetie and was great for the camera. Catherine's parents even jumped in some photos towards the end of the session. Catherine, it was great working with you and I wish you all the best! XOXO Renee
Susan Birthday Session | Grosse Pointe Park, MII recently had the chance to do a 40th Birthday portrait session with Susan and her family while social distancing in Grosse Pointe Park, MI. While staying home due to orders for COVID-19, her husband was looking for creative ways to celebrate his wife's birthday. He ordered a couple dozen penguins and other signs to blanket their front yard in Susan's honor. This birthday session was a lot of fun. I am so happy to be doing photography with clients once again. I have missed working with people so much! This birthday session was a lot of fun. Susan, I wish you a year full of much love and joy. You are FABULOUS!
